Relax With Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Nitrous Oxide
What is Nitrous Oxide?
Also known as "laughing gas," nitrous oxide is a mild sedative that helps reduce anxiety and create a sense of relaxation during your visit. It’s administered through a small mask that fits over your nose, allowing you to breathe in the gas. Nitrous oxide works quickly and allows our dental team to adjust the dosage throughout your procedure for optimal comfort and safety.
Although nitrous oxide induces a deep sense of relaxation, it won’t put you to sleep. You’ll remain awake and able to respond to questions or instructions from our team. Some patients report feeling lightheaded or notice a tingling sensation in their arms and legs. Most experience a pleasant, calm sensation and may not remember much of the procedure afterward.
What to Expect During and After Your Visit
During your procedure, we’ll closely monitor your comfort level and adjust the nitrous oxide as needed. Once your treatment is complete, we’ll stop the flow of gas, and the effects will wear off within minutes. Afterward, you’ll spend a short time in our recovery area before heading out.
Unlike other forms of sedation, nitrous oxide wears off quickly and has no lingering side effects. That means you can safely drive yourself to and from your appointment—and even return to work or school the same day.
