How Dental Implants Work
Dental implants are prosthetic tooth roots made of titanium that are surgically placed directly into your jawbone to replace missing teeth. Over time, the bone around the implant fuses with the titanium post, creating a strong and stable foundation. Once this bond is secure, a custom dental crown is attached above the gum line, designed to look and function just like your natural teeth.
The type of implant recommended depends on how many teeth you need to replace. Options include:
- Single-tooth implants
- Customized implant-supported bridges for multiple missing teeth
- Implant-retained dentures anchored to the jawbone
After your initial consultation, which includes a CBCT scan for detailed imaging, we’ll work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs. During the implant surgery, sedation is provided to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure.
Following the surgery, you will receive temporary teeth while your jawbone and gums heal around the implants. Sutures are typically removed at a follow-up appointment about two weeks later.
Approximately 10 to 12 weeks after surgery, we’ll take an X-ray to confirm proper bone healing. Then, impressions are taken to design your permanent custom restoration. Your final dental implant(s) will be placed about two to four weeks later, giving you a natural, durable smile you can enjoy for years.

When To Consider Dental Implants
If you’re missing one or more teeth, dental implants may be an excellent solution to restore your smile and oral function. At Aesthetic Dental Group, our team will perform a thorough examination during your consultation to determine whether dental implants are right for you. If any conditions could affect the success of your implant procedure, we’ll recommend appropriate preliminary treatments to prepare your mouth for surgery.
To be a good candidate for dental implants, you should:
- Have healthy gums and no active gum disease
- Have sufficient jawbone density to support the implant
- Be in good overall health to undergo minor oral surgery with anesthesia
What Are The Benefits Of Dental Implants?
- Secure and Stable Fit: Because implants are anchored directly into your jawbone, they stay firmly in place. You can enjoy all your favorite foods without worrying about slipping or discomfort.
- Improved Confidence and Appearance: Dental implants restore your smile and support facial structure, helping to boost your self-esteem and enhance your overall quality of life.
- Jawbone Preservation: Implants act like natural tooth roots, stimulating the jawbone to prevent bone loss. Without this stimulation, up to 25% of bone volume can be lost in the first year after tooth loss.
- Supports Long-Term Oral Health: The implant process promotes bone healing and helps maintain the strength and structure of your jaw.
- Enhanced Comfort: Because they’re fixed in place, implant-supported dentures minimize movement, reducing irritation or sores caused by shifting.
- Improved Function: These dentures don’t require adhesive and function more like natural teeth, making it easier to eat and speak.
- Better Taste Experience: Implant dentures cover less of the palate, allowing you to better enjoy the taste and texture of your food.
